A Private Eye’s Advice

In 1982 he copied out some remarks by a private eye who said that is was easier to identify people at night. The things you notice in broad daylight – colours, hair, clothes – can all be changed quickly and easily. But the things you are obliged to concentrate on at night – ‘the slope of the shoulders, the way the clothing is worn, the gait’ – ‘never change’.
