Passing The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York was irresistible, the architecture drew me in. Though I found the permanent collection uninspiring, the Hopper Drawing exhibition was inspired and beautifully curated, with the preparatory sketches placed alongside the famous paintings they became. I was tight for time and telephoned my client to say I’d be two hours late because I was unable to miss spending time with the sketches. To his credit, he jumped into a taxi and joined me. Two hours became four.
