A Neoliberalism Reading List

This list is a belated (very) summary of a post from last year, prompted by learning that Wendy James (number 15 below) is due in March 2015. Happy to take further suggestions in comments on worthwhile (there’s a lot of dross) books that detail the history and rise of neoliberal capitalism in the 20th and 21st century.

  1. Luc Boltanski, Ève Chiapello, The New Spirit of Capitalism
  2. Giovanni Arrighi, The Long Twentieth Century: Money, Power and the Origins of our Times
  3. Krishnan Kumar, From Post-Industrial to Post-Modern Society: New Theories of the Contemporary World
  4. Ash Amin, Post-Fordism: A Reader
  5. David Harvey, A Brief History of Neoliberalism
  6. Gilles Lipovetsky, Hypermodern Times
  7. Paolo Virno, Michael Hardt, Radical Thought in Italy
  8. Zygmunt Bauman, Globalization: The Human Consequences
  9. Susan Strange, The Retreat of the State: The Diffusion of Power
  10. Henry Giroux, Against the Terror of Neoliberalism
  11. Philip Mirowski, Never Let a Serious Crisis Go to Waste
  12. Wendy Brown, Undoing the Demos [due March ’15]
  13. Colin Crouch, The Strange Non-Death of Neoliberalism
